My story

Why I do this work

Before I was a clinician supporting women with insomnia, I was a patient. I came to this work through a personal breaking point.

For most of my life, I was a great sleeper. And then I got pregnant with my first child, and that changed. What I lost wasn’t just the hours. It was the effortless, automatic relationship with sleep I’d never once had to think about. Suddenly I was monitoring, calculating, bracing. Sleep had become something that could go wrong — and increasingly, it did.

It lasted far longer than my pregnancy, well into the first year of my child’s life. I suffered through it largely on my own, without effective clinical support. No one seemed to know what to do.

It eventually resolved on its own. When insomnia returned in my second pregnancy, I approached it differently — this time, I found CBT-I. It gave me the framework to stop fighting and start understanding, and the tools to allow sleep to return.

My insomnia story started and ended with pregnancy. But the experience of losing your relationship with sleep, and not knowing how to find your way back, arrives through many doors. My sleep isn’t perfect every night — no one’s is. But I have the tools to recognize when patterns are trending in the wrong direction, and to reset before it becomes something bigger.

Background

My training and approach

My practice is informed by years of training and study in a set of disciplines that shape how I listen, how I understand the nervous system, and how I speak with patients.

As a certified yoga and meditation instructor with additional training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, I bring a deep understanding of the nervous system and the system-regulating practices that support the cognitive work of treatment. And a grounding in Nonviolent Communication shapes how I speak to fear and distortion: clearly, gently, without judgment — and support you in doing the same.

Philosophy

What I believe

Sleep is not a destination. It is what happens when we remove what is in the way.

While it may not always feel like it, your body already knows how to sleep. CBT-I helps you stop interfering with something your body is wired to do, allowing sleep to become a natural process again rather than something you feel you have to force.

A great deal of what women experience gets absorbed into a spectrum of normal — the hormonal shifts, the caregiving load, the nervous system that never fully gets to rest. But normal is not the same as inevitable.

My focus is sleep. But I understand the full context in which your sleep is suffering.

You deserve and can have easy, restorative sleep that supports your health, happiness, and wellbeing. I’m here to help you get there.
